Teeth whitening is ideal for people who have healthy gums and unrestored teeth (without any history of having dental fillings). Individuals with yellow tones to their teeth respond best. But this cosmetic procedure is not recommended for everyone because the colour of our tooth deepens as we age. The pale yellowish tinge that you notice on your teeth is actually how a teeth should appear naturally. Its nothing but the colour of the second layer of tooth (dentin) that reflects through the translucent enamel layer. However, there are many teeth whitening systems and products, including whitening toothpastes, over-the-counter gels, strips, trays, and whitening products available these days that you can buy from us and use it at home. Some pharmacy might also have Teeth Whitening kits with them, but they would be mostly not in stock because of less demand. a) Whitening toothpastes All toothpastes remove surface stains because they contain mild abrasives, but some whitening toothpastes contain gentle polishing or chemical agents that provide additional stain removal effectiveness. b) Whitening strips and gels Whitening gels are clear, peroxide-based gels applied with a small brush directly to the surface of your teeth. Instructions vary depending on the strength of the peroxide. Follow the directions on the product carefully. Initial results are seen in a few days, and final results last about 4 months. A full course takes between 10 and 14 days. c) Tray-based Tooth Whiteners Tray-based tooth whitening systems, purchased either from a pharmacy or from us, involve filling a mouth guard-like tray with a gel whitening solution that has a peroxide-bleaching agent. The tray is worn for a period of time, generally from a couple of hours a day to every day during the night for up to 4 weeks and even longer (depending on the degree of discoloration and desired level of whitening).
