Description

Pulp therapy is a restorative technique used to save a severely decayed primary tooth wherein the decay has reached the inner most layer (pulpal layer) of the tooth. It is similar to a root canal and is commonly referred to as ‘pulpotomy’ or ‘pulpectomy’. Pulp therapy removes the decayed tissue to prevent the loss of the tooth or the spread of infection. There are two types of Pulp Therapy that we do, they are: a) Vital Pulp Therapy: In this procedure we remove only the decayed pulp and healthy pulp tissue is preserved inside the tooth. An oral dressing is done inside the tooth to prevent bacterial growth and patient discomfort. Finally, the tooth will be restored using a Stainless-steel crown. b) Non-vital pulp therapy: this procedure is indicated only when the tooth is severely decayed to such an extent that it involves complete removal of the pulp tissues from the tooth. The inside of the tooth is cleaned and is filled with a special material. Over time this material is safely absorbed by the body as the primary tooth is naturally lost. In the meantime, a Stainless-steel crown is placed to protect the tooth. Signs that your child might need a Pulp Therapy • Tooth pain with no apparent cause. • Tooth sensitivity to hot and cold food/beverages that remains after the stimulus is removed. • Swelling or redness in gum tissue around the affected tooth. • If the tooth is cracked, chipped or damaged.
