DECIDUOUS TOOTH EXTRACTIONS AND SPACE MAINTAINERS: There is nothing like the excitement of watching your child lose their first tooth, bury it deep in the ground for their tooth fairy to magically appear in their dreams and grant them a wish of a beautiful set of permanent teeth. This sounds fun as a fairytale but in reality, occasionally baby teeth need a little more help to move things along. As your child grows, eventually all their baby teeth fall out because they make way for the eruption of permanent teeth in their mouth. In cases when their teeth are badly decayed or damaged, or when baby teeth start to crowd adult teeth coming in, it may be necessary to consider having your child’s teeth extracted. Sometimes we also have parents coming in bringing their child with loose tooth not willing to fall out, in such cases we extract the baby teeth quickly and painlessly using only topical local anesthetics. A more involved tooth extraction may also require injectable local anesthetics or sedation. When baby teeth are extracted before the permanent teeth are scheduled to erupt, this is when we recommend a prosthetic tooth to be placed in order to maintain space for the new tooth to erupt correctly.
